After leaving Flagstaff, we were Phoenix bound, but with a few detours. Grandma and Grandpa offered to take Matthew with them since they were heading straight to Phoenix, which is only about a 2 hour trip from Flagstaff, rather than us taking him along with us back up to the Grand Canyon, then down through Sedona, which was closer to a 5 hour trip. It worked out well. The older kids got to see some great sights with us, while Matthew got to have a little extra time with the grandparents!
First stop for us, the Grand Canyon:
You can see a tiny bit of the Colorado river in this pic (just below and to the right of center) if you click to enlarge
We only stopped for the first lookout, since we did still have the other 2 kids with us, and we wanted to see Sedona before it got dark - we figured it was about all they could stand. The Grand Canyon is a BEAUTIFUL place. Takes your breath away and makes you feel very small. This was only the second time I've been there, and both times have been around Christmas, so I've never seen it without snow. Some day I'd like to see it without snow, and take the time to see more of it!
